Happy leap year, Hubsters! Two months in to 2024 and there’s lots of great content to share from the group.
We’ve had three more engaging webinars on a variety of topics, plus Wednesday Questions to get us thinking about ELT:
- Yes! You can learn English with Dyslexia – with Boelo van der Pool
- Pickatale: Unlocking the joy of reading – with Emily Guille-Marrett
- Quick ChatGPT-generated activities to beat the 1-to-1 blues – with Olga Prepodobnaya
- How do you vary nomination in your classes?
- When was the last time you wrote a full lesson plan?
- What ‘unpopular’ opinions get your learners talking?
- How do you respond to messages like this?
- What do you love about your job?
- Do you ever pair yourself with a learner?
- Are you good at ICQs?
There were some interesting questions from Hubsters as well. Practice English with News asked about Business English textbooks, Simon asked about online resources for adults to prepare for Cambridge exams and he also shared an Edutopia article on getting feedback from staff. Jane was looking for advice on how her learners could send voice messages and there are lots of recommendations for different sites and apps on the thread. Kristen was looking for resources (or volunteers!) for peer observations and Robert shared videos on eModeration, mnemonics and AI for language learning. Ben and Shaun both had surveys about the challenges of listening for learners. Bhavna was back with another wonderful video, this time on a book by Katherine Reilly (check out Katherine’s Hub sessions on getting learners writing and adapting your materials).
Here are some other events which Hubsters shared details of:
- Fiona was running an open day of her Kids Club English community
- Leo and the Learn Your English crew had a webinar on diagnosing pronunciation with Donna Brinton and they also did a session with Robin Walker and Gemma Archer on pronunciation
- Blanka shared details about the Educast conference
- Quoc shared details of a webinar with Ola Kowalska (check out Ola’s session in the Hub here), as well as issue 8 of the EduVerse newsletter
